How long does a surfboard last?

    Hi everyone,

Say I bought a decent board, how long does it normally last for?

depends on a few factors -

    Is it brand new?

How great the glass work is?

How often do you surf it?

Are you launching airs and really putting your board through some serious stress testing when in the h20?

For me my boards last years because I'm not a air guy and I always let my boards cure for a couple weeks. I have boards that have been surfed for months and still look brand new.

Thanks for the advice. I would probably buy a used board, not sure how great the glass would be. I would probably surf like 3 times a month. Likely that no "air" will be acquired, haha. What does letting the board "cure" mean? Thanks!

Heya Andy, I am too new to it, i have this surfboard of my uncle back from 2 years. i don't remember but it was a brand new surfboard he bought and till now it was looking as the same new surfboard. Then, it came to me and i see its depreciating, actually its not that the surfboard is bad or something. on its pace its great. But i am learning on it so i can say i am quite rough on it . its been 4 months of mine with that surf.
But as you think, i agree with you, better go with a used one first. Good luck !!

My two foamies are still going strong after three years, so even the cheap ones tend to hold up decently well.

What is decent? With normal use and in a decent non-rocky break a longboard should last 3-4 years. Shortboards are still rideable after a couple of years as well. It really depends on if the board is custom or a cheap rack board. The Epoxy custom boards I shape last a few years even with hard use. Whaer you see a lot of board turnover is with heavy use surfers who are always looking for something different.
